What deposit products am I able to open online?

Citizens Bank personal checkingsavings and CD accounts.

Personal IRAs and business accounts are not available for online account opening at this time.

What information do I need to apply for an account online?

For a quicker application process please have the following information available.

  • Your Social Security number
  • Your primary residential address
  • Your driver's license number
  • Your funding account information, routing and transit number and checking or savings account number
  • If applying jointly, please have the Social Security number and drivers license number for the co-applicant
What is the process to apply for an online account?

Applying for an account online is very simple and it takes only a few minutes to complete.

  1. Once you've selected the product that's best for you, click on the "Open Now" button to begin completing the application process.
  2. Tell us about yourself and the joint owner if there is one.
  3. Choose the initial deposit amount.
  4. Review your answers and the account agreements.
  5. Set-up the link to your external account.
Is my account application secure?

Citizens Bank uses 128-bit SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption which gives you one of the highest levels of security possible for protecting confidential transactions over the Internet. The encryption process converts sensitive information into a string of unrecognizable characters to prevent theft of confidential information.

How do I make my opening deposit?

You are able to transfer money from a checking or savings account at another financial institution in order to open your account online.

The only information you will need is your routing/transit number and the account number from the other institution.

If you are a current client, you also have the option to transfer funds from another Citizens Bank account.

What is the dollar amount required to open my account online?

Depending upon the product you choose, you may open your account with the minimum required amount up to $10,000. Get details on the minimum required amount for checking, savings and CDs from the Citizens Bank personal banking page.

If I choose external transfer as my funding method, what happens after I provide my funding information?

Citizens Bank will verify the link between your funding account and your new Citizens Bank account.  The process takes 2-4 days.  We will make two test deposits and matching withdrawals to your external account in amounts less than $1.00.  Verifying the amounts transferred indicates the link to your funding account is working.  Citizens Bank will then transfer your initial deposit amount into your new Citizens Bank account.

How do I verify the test deposits to insure the link between my funding account and new Citizens Bank account is properly linked?

We will send an email to remind you to check for the test deposits and withdrawals in your funding account.  Once you see the test transactions, you will return to the Citizens Bank website and click on “Finalize Account”.  You will be prompted to enter the primary owner’s email address and verification code.  Then you will follow the instructions to enter the dollar amounts of your test transactions.
